Important Information for BISD: Google Drive Privacy Settings Will Be Changing in January.

Google Drive privacy settings will change for all adults in BISD starting in January. Right now, the default setting for anything we create in @banderaisd2.net is "Anyone in BISD can view." Starting in January, the default will be "Off-Only specific people can view."

Why? In an age of increased emphasis on safety, security, and privacy, it's the right thing to do.

But it's also going to cause us some growing pains as we all train our brains to think about sharing permissions when we email or share a document to a colleague.

The good news is that Google has some tools built in to help us. If you create a document in Drive and email it to a colleague, you will be prompted to make a choice about sharing permissions before you can click "send." (See image below.)

Make your selection and then click "send." More good news is that the change should not affect files that are already shared in Google Drive.

I'll be coming to faculty meetings to provide information about this transition in the coming weeks, but I wanted to put the change on your radar with plenty of lead time so that you have time to ask questions before the transition takes place. Please email sgroff or call x2007 if you have questions.
