SeeSaw: A Versatile Communication & Documentation Tool
SeeSaw is a student portfolio tool that works across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Teachers can sign up for a free account that will manage up to ten active classes. Paid premium accounts offer additional features. Click here for a quick overview of the site.
SeeSaw offers students a great opportunity to show skill mastery and reflect on their learning.Students can document their learning by using the app to add and annotate photos, video, drawings, notes, and links. Teachers can moderate postings and comments to ensure that good digital citizenship has been used. Parents can access their student's page to see "what did you do at school today." Teachers can use the tool for formative assessment, to teach 21st century skills, and to communicate with parents. SeeSaw has received a Top Pick for Learning rating from Common Sense Media. Scroll to near the bottom of the link below to watch how four teachers are using SeeSaw in their classrooms.
Thanks, Erin Chambers at BMS, for recommending this tool. Mrs. Chambers is using this tool to collect student work to show their individual mastery of concepts. What a great resource to provide documentation during a parent conference or ARD!
Quizizz: More than just a quiz game
If you've been using Kahoot for interactive games in your classroom, you may want to take a look at Quizizz. Unlike Kahoot, Quizizz allows students to play the games as homework and questions can be imported from a spreadsheet saved in .csv format. Questions can be added from other quizzes, and quizzes can be shared directly to Google Classroom.
This document with screenshots gives a great overview of the tool. The site offers a guided tutorial to get you started, has a great FAQ page, and offers several how-to videos on its resource page. Richard Byrne of Free Technology For Teachers has put together a spreadsheet comparing six online review game tools, so if you're a Kahoot user, you can compare its features to Quizizz.
Thanks, Dee Heiner at BHS, for sharing this tool. Coach Heiner is linking her quizzes in her Google Classroom for students to complete as homework. Quizizz provides a total breakdown of data that can be accessed from the reports page including how many times a student has taken the quiz and which questions the student answered correctly. Data about each quiz, each question, or each student can be downloaded into a spreadsheet. Quizizz looks like a great tool to add to your teacher toolbox!
