Set Limits on Shared Documents
A great big thank you to an awesome BHS teacher who shared how to set expiration dates and other restrictions on shared documents in Google Drive. You can prevent people who have access to your document from copying it, printing it, or sharing it, in addition to limiting the time they have access to it.
Google offers a complete set of instructions HERE, but if you want the Cliff Notes, follow the screenshots below.
Add a Shortcut to Your Chromebook Shelf
The shelf on a Chromebook is the same thing as the task bar on a PC or the dock on a Mac. If there is a website that you visit frequently, you can add a shortcut to it on the shelf.
- Open the website.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of Chrome
- Click MORE TOOLS.
- Click ADD TO SHELF
- Name the shortcut.
- Click Add.
Create Docs Offline and Enable Offline Access to Google Docs
If you ever need to work in Google Apps when you don't have internet access, you can enable your Google Apps files to be available offline.
- Open your Google Drive, and click on the Drive settings gear.
- Click on Settings.
- Scroll down to Offline and check the box to sync
The files can be accessed through the FILES app. (blue w/ a white file folder)
To create a new Doc, Slide, Sheet, or Drawing while offline, click on the launcher and find the app. When the app opens, click the red + in the bottom right corner. When you are back on wifi, your doc will sync to your Drive.
*Student accounts do not have offline access enabled.
