Proquest SIRS Discoverer is another of the databases that is included in the BISD database subscription. Acquire your campus's username and password from your librarian. Click on a topic and you will see information regarding the topic, critical thinking questions, links to more information, a quiz, or visual literacy tasks. Lexile level, citations, and Google integration add even more value to the database. Proquest SIRS Discoverer is pretty amazing!

After over two decades in the ELAR classroom, I can't even imagine the number of times I have written "fragment," "subject-verb agreement" or "good sensory detail" on an essay. Oh, how I wish Google Docs and Joe Zoo Express had been around way back when! JoeZoo Express is a Google Docs add-on that provides a menu of comments that you can easily add to a document to provide individualized feedback with the click of a button. It also offers an awesome feature that allows you to attach a tutorial that shows the student how to correct the problem. JoeZoe Express may take a little time to set up, but if you are a secondary teacher grading 150 essays a week, that time may be very well spent.
